It was the summer of 1979 and I had returned to my home village of Kitkatla and bought my uncle's fishing boat. I was divorced and remarried and my second marriage was coming apart. I fished my gillnetter; Eagle I that summer alongside my Uncle John and my father, Art Vickers. It was a good summer of hard work and a change to be back in the area that I had spent my childhood in.
That year was my Uncle John and Aunt Jane's wedding anniversary. I decided to put together their family crests.
If my memory serves me well, it was their Golden Wedding Anniversary and I was having some difficulty understanding how they had been together for so long but the design came together as fluidly as the waters beneath my fishing boat.
My Uncle's crest was the Whale and my Aunt's crest was the Raven and so they came together well and they loved the design of Raven and Whale. - Roy Henry Vickers
